Rembrandt and Banksy fetch millions at auction

Money was no object in Sotheby's first face-to face sale since the lockdown in London on Tuesday night (July 28).

How much would you estimate a Rembrandt self-portrait, signed and dated 1632 would fetch?

Keep in mind, it's one of just three from the Dutch Golden Age painter left in private hands.

Well, it sold for $18.7million -- a new auction record set after just six minutes of intense bidding.

Or maybe pop art is more your style?

Fast forward a few hundred years: David Hockney's dreamy Pool on a Cloudy Day with rain from 1978 also made a splash at the auction, fetching more than 6 million dollars.

Even work by prolific British street artist Banksy made an appearance.

His thought-provoking 'Mediterranean Sea View' triptych went under the hammer for just under $3 million, with the funds raised going towards a children’s hospital and stroke unit in Bethlehem.

The auction closed at a total of $192.6 million, bringing Sotheby's flagship summer sales to almost $1.43 bn.
