Rita Ora responds to LGBT backlash over new single Girls

Singer Rita Ora has responded to the backlash of her new song Girls from the LGBT community.

Ora, 27, tweeted out a lengthy response to the accusation that her latest single, a collaboration with Cardi B, Bebe Rexha, and Charli XCX, was exploiting bisexuality for profit.

Names such as Kehlani and Hayley Kiyoko had called out the song for its use of being bisexual as a gimmick, with Hayley branding it ‘dangerous’ and offending the LGBT community in the process.

Ora took to Twitter in order to apologise and clarify things from her perspective…

She shared a screenshot essay-like response to her 7 million followers.

In the address, she claims Girls was meant to ‘represent my truth’ and is an ‘accurate account of a very real and honest experience in my life.’

She revealed that she had ‘had romantic relationships with women and men throughout my life and this is my personal journey,’ as a means of justifying the expression of bisexuality in her latest song.

Furthermore, the Anywhere singer clarified that she was ‘sorry how I expressed myself in my song’ and said she never intentionally meant to cause offence to the LGBT+ community.

The former X Factor judge had previously said during an interview with People that she hoped the track would become a bisexual anthem.

‘It’s time for the girl-power, baby!’ she said.
