Ronaldinho aims dig at Douglas Luiz in astonishing Brazil rant

Brazil legend Ronaldinho has taken a swipe at his country’s current squad, which includes Aston Villa ace Douglas Luiz, insisting that he won’t be watching what he’s described as ‘one of the worst’ teams in recent years when they compete at Copa America.

Dorival Junior’s side are one of the favourites to win this summer but one of their all-time greats isn’t confident of their chances after they beat Mexico 3-2 and drew 1-1 with the USA in their pre-tournament friendly matches during the week.

Ronaldinho won the Copa America with his country in 1999 but despite their talented squad, he won’t be tuning in. He took to Instagram and said: “That’s it folks, I’ve had enough. This is a sad moment for those who love Brazilian soccer.

“It’s getting hard to find the spirit to watch the games. This is perhaps one of the worst teams in recent years, it has no respectable leaders, only average players for the majority.

“I’ve been following football since I was a kid, long before I thought about becoming a player, and I’ve never seen a situation as bad as this. Lack of love for the shirt, lack of grit and the most important of all: football.

“I’ll repeat, our performance has been one of the worst things I’ve ever seen. Such a shame.

“I therefore declare my resignation. I will not watch any CONMEBOL Copa AmericaTM game, nor celebrate any victory.”

Stars including Vinicius Jr, Gabriel, Luiz and Alisson are just some of the talented names selected in their squad for Copa America.

Brazil, who last won the competition in 2019, are in Group D and first face Costa Rica on June 25 before playing Paraguay and Colombia.

Reigning champions and joint-record 15-time winners Argentina are likely to be their main competitors for the title.

It kicks-off on June 21 when Argentina face Canada, with a total of 16 countries eyeing glory on the big stage.
