The Labour Party has swept to victory in Rushmoor and seized control of the council for the first time in the authority's history.

In a brilliant night of results, which were counted at Aldershot's Princes Hall, Labour gained seven seats, all at the expense of the Conservatives, to end the night with 21 seats on the 39 seat council.

The Conservatives, who also lost a seat to the Lib Dems in St Mark’s ward taking total losses to eight, end the night with 15 councillors having gone into the election in control of the council.

The Lib Dems now have three councillors overall.

Rushmoor is a Hampshire borough bordering Surrey with its major towns being Aldershot and Farnborough.
