Ryan Allsop shares Chris Davies’ belief in Birmingham City’s project and wants to play his part in transforming the club’s playing style.

The 32-year-old became Blues’ first signing of the summer on Tuesday, agreeing a three-year contract to link up with Davies. Brummie goalkeeper Allsop was a mainstay in a Hull City side that challenged for the play-offs under Liam Rosenior.

Allsop possesses the ball-playing skills that Blues are going to need to become a successful possession-based team having excelled in that style for the Tigers. He averaged more touches and passes than any other goalkeeper in the Championship last season.

“It’s something I’m very proud of in my game,” says Allsop. “I feel like it’s a big strength of mine, having the ball at my feet and helping the team in terms of build-up and keeping possession. Hopefully that buys into what we’re trying to do as a team and gets us going in the right direction.”

Davies, who is beginning life as a number one with Blues after more than a decade working as an assistant at the highest level, wants to play exciting, entertaining football in League One next season. The former Tottenham Hotspur coach made sure Allsop was all in before the deal went through.

Allsop said: “I spoke to the gaffer and everything was really positive. The state of the club at the moment is on an upward trajectory. He was excited about the project as well and wanted me to fully be onboard with it and I can’t wait to get going.”
