Rylan Clark has said he “spiralled out of control” after his marriage broke down and that he went to a place where “nothing mattered” to him.

The former X Factor star and his hubby Dan Neal split up last year, following six years of marriage.

Rylan, 34, took months off work and has been open about how he tried to take his own life.

Opening up about it on This Morning, he told hosts Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary: “I spiralled completely out of control. I ended up having to be admitted somewhere because I was a threat to myself, that’s the most polite way to say it.

“I tried to do some stupid things.”

Rylan said he dropped to nine stone and couldn’t eat or dress himself.

He explained: “I couldn’t get out of this mindset. I just could not get out of the nothingness, that’s all it was.

“I could hear and see everything but couldn’t hear a thing or see anything.

“None of it mattered, nothing mattered to me, not one thing mattered to me.”

The star said that people often ask what helped him get better and get through it.

“One day, just knowledge and knowing you are not crazy is the best way to put it, snapped me out of it,” he said.

“The fact that I now know that I wasn’t going mad, I wasn’t crazy, woke me up.”

Clark met Neal when he was a contestant on Big Brother in 2013.
