LABOUR election signs have been torn apart in Lymington in a 'mindless act' of vandalism.

Said to be outside a property in Lymington, election signs for Labour New Forest candidates have been torn apart in an act of vandalism.

Not a one-off incident, Labour party agent for the election, Jerry Weber, has stated there was been a high amount of vandalism against political posters in Lymington this year.

He said: "I think it is a sad time when we cannot conduct a campaign upholding our precious democracy without this mindless activity. These banners cost over £70 each and are paid for by ordinary members.

"There has been quite a bit of vandalism against political party posters in Lymington during the election. I have spoken to our LibDem colleagues and they say they are experiencing the same problem."

Cameras have been said to be pointed at the banners and the incident was recorded and reported to police.

Mr Weber continued to say that the action is "not in the spirit of fair and open campaigning" and was clear, at this time it is not believed to have been done by a political party but by an individual who '"doesn't approve of the democratic process".

He said: "Although our democracy is flawed, it is something that we can be proud of and be thankful we do not live in an oppressive regime where dissent is not tolerated.

"I hope I speak for all seven candidates in New Forest West that this action is not in the spirit of fair and open campaigning."
