A primary school is to open a pre-loved uniform shop.

Hawkes Farm Academy will soon launch its Hawkes' Hut, which will sell second-hand school clothing at a more affordable price.

There will be a wide range of preloved items for sale including logo uniforms, jumpers, ties, trousers, shirts and PE clothes.

Fancy dress outfits for school events like World Book Day and Halloween will also be available.

The aim is to help ease financial pressures on parents and promote awareness of sustainability among children.

The initiative has been made possible thanks to the efforts of the school's parent-teacher association Friends of Hawkes Farm.

The association has been working hard to make more pre-loved uniforms available to parents by using social media and taking orders on the school run.

The school, in  Hawks Road, Hailsham, thanked nearby care home Bowes House, which gave  £200 donation to start the project.

Headteacher Mike Cotton said: "At Hawkes Farm Academy we are invested in supporting both the economic and environmental wellbeing of our community, which is why we are opening Hawkes’ Hut.

"We are committed to improving the life chances of every pupil we serve, and this includes being able to provide financial resources where possible."

The school was recently awarded the Green Flag Eco School Award with distinction as a result of its carefully designed curriculum which includes learning about sustainability and the importance of recycling.
