Scott Eastwood May Join Pacific Rim Sequel

We already know that ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ star John Boyega is set to headline the follow-up to ‘Pacific Rim’ - and now we have our first indication of who may be joining him.

Deadline report that Legendary are courting Scott Eastwood, rising star and son of Hollywood legend Clint, to play a ‘key role’ in the sequel, earlier reported to be entitled ‘Pacific Rim: Maelstrom.’

Eastwood’s career has been gaining momentum of late, with the actor set to be seen in this summer’s ‘Suicide Squad,’ and next year’s ‘Fast & Furious 8.’

Details have not been released regarding Eastwood’s prospective ‘Pacific Rim’ role, though it is known that Boyega will portray the son of Idris Elba’s character Stacker Pentecost - and it seems safe to assume he too will ‘cancel the apocalypse’ by doing battle with the gargantuan Kaiju from inside a mechanised Jaeger.

Director Guillermo del Toro’s 2013 robots-vs-monsters movie proved divisive with audiences and critics alike. Though by no means a flop, it didn’t perform as well as hoped in the west; however, it proved a smash hit in China, which was enough to get a sequel the green light (though this looked uncertain for a time).

While del Toro has worked on the script and will produce, directing duties on the sequel go to Steven S DeKnight, a seasoned TV producer and writer (whose credits include ‘Angel,’ ‘Smallville’ and ‘Daredevil’), who’ll be making his feature debut.

Little has been revealed plot-wise, but it is understood the sequel may be set some time after the events of the first film - and it is currently unknown whether any of the original film’s survivors (including Charlie Hunnam, Rinko Kikuchi and Charlie Day) will be returning.

The ‘Pacific Rim’ sequel will open 23 February 2018.
