Emmerdale is set for some major twists and turns in the coming months.

It has been a dramatic start to 2024 already with some big storylines hitting the village. As we’ve previously reported, Emmerdale producer Laura Shaw has given us a hint of what to expect.

Some standout teased plots include a life-changing accident, a new arrival and Mandy and Paddy, hopefully, enjoying a happy ever after. In this latest article, we have compiled what Laura’s said alongside other Emmerdale gossip.

Things are about to get a lot complicated for Will as his ex is set to make a surprise appearance in the village and as viewers know Kim doesn’t play by the rules when it comes to Will so things are expected to take a dramatic turn.

Laura teased: "We've got a new character joining the show called Rose, and she's kind of mysterious, a bit of a free spirit, loves to party. She's somebody from Will's past.

She added: "She's going to be hitting our screens fairly soon causing a real storm. She's going to be played by the wonderful Christine Tremarco."

Dawn and Billy Fletcher’s devastating news

Dawn Fletcher and husband Billy are set to face one of their worst nightmares as Billy will suffer a heartbreaking illness.

Laura said: "We've got a big story coming up for Dawn and Billy. We've seen these two go through a whole heap of challenges in their relationship. They finally got married, they've had baby Evan and it's been fairly rosy with these two for the last few months, and unfortunately, what we're gonna see is that rocked.

"Evan almost out of nowhere is diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. It is one of the most common childhood Leukemias with 650 children and young adults diagnosed with that every year in the UK. What we really want to just show with this story is just what a stress and strain it can put on a family with a long-term illness like that.

“So what we'll kind of see is how the roles of Dawn and Billy are changed almost overnight and out of nowhere. We'll see how Lucas and Clemmie are affected and the stress that it puts on the sibling dynamics."

"We'll see how this affects Billy and Dawn's relationship. We'll see how it affects the wider family and financial pressure as well.”

Tom King and Belle’s storyline takes a dark turn

Tom King's controlling behaviour towards wife Belle Dingle is only getting worse and Laura has hinted that things are going to take a sinister turn.

Laura revealed: "We've seen how their wedding night ended with Belle in tears and since then we've seen how Tom started to manipulate and control her. This long-running storyline has been really carefully researched and it's going to continue over the next few months."

She continued: “I think the real-life stories that we've been given access to what we've really learned from them is just how quickly these coercive control relationships can turn physical.

"So that's what we'll see happen next with these two. And through our storyline, we've been trying to find new and innovative ways to tell the story, we have a special episode coming up, where we kind of step a little bit away from our usual Emmerdale format and do things a little bit differently.

"So it's a dinner party, and we'll see what happens, what's going on in their relationships but then, through the kind of special way that we've done it, what we'll be able to see is how what you see in public is not necessarily the truth.”

Further A-list cameos?

This one might be wishful thinking but Olympic ice skating heroes Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean could possibly return in the future. At Christmas, they made a cameo and have recently discussed whether they’d be back in the soap.

A huge accident with life-changing impact

Emmerdale producer Laura Shaw teased: "We're going to see an accident happen that's going to affect two big family groups, and we'll see somebody in some very serious medical jeopardy." While she didn’t reveal who is affected she said that it will be life-changing.

Mandy Dingle and Paddy Kirk get ready to walk down the aisle

Emmerdale fans have been delighted recently to see Paddy Kirk and Mandy Dingle reunited and engaged to be married. While, Laura wouldn't give too much away about Mandy and Paddy’s big day but viewers can expect the pair to tie the knot soon.

She said: "Mandy and Paddy - obviously their love story has been brilliant watching that out on screen and we've recently seen them getting engaged in a little bit of a throwback to their original kind of Cinderella wedding.

"There are going to be wedding bells for them in the not-too-distant future. Unfortunately, she couldn't tease further saying: "I can't really tell you anything more than that because we're still planning it."

Old favourites returning?

In recent weeks, we’ve seen cast members discussing the possible return of some fan favourites. Firstly, Lawrence Robb, who plays Mackenzie Boyd, has been talking about a possible return for character Chloe Harris - Mack’s former partner. Mack and Chloe had baby Reuben together before she fled the village.

The door was left open for Chloe’s possible return with the character played by Jessie Elland. As reported by Digital Spy, Lawrence said: "I was gutted when Jessie left – me and Jessie got on really well. I still speak to her quite a lot. It was bittersweet, I guess, in many ways because whilst I really enjoyed working with her while we were on set, I know that she's doing really well now.

"I know that she's really enjoying doing what she's doing now. So while it was sad on one level, I'm also very happy for her. There's always scope and I think they left it deliberately open for Chloe and Reuben to potentially return. But at the moment I don't know."

While, Danny Miller has addressed Emmerdale viewers seeing Robron reunite. Danny, 33, who plays Aaron Dingle, is a firm favourite with Emmerdale viewers. Many viewers still fondly recall Aaron’s relationship with Robert Sugden - some fans dubbed the couple ‘Robron’.

The pair tied the knot in 2018. Unfortunately, everything came crashing down in 2019 when Robert attacked rapist Lee Posner - who later died in hospital. Robert was later sentenced to 14 years in prison. He later filed for divorce from Aaron.

Danny Miller has said he’d like to work with acting star Ryan Hawley, who played Robert, once again. Danny said: “The Robron thing… I mean, for me, as an actor – financially more than anything, I’ll be honest – Ryan coming back as Robert would be great.”

During an appearance on ITV show Loose Women, Danny said he’s trying his best to get his former co-star to return. Danny explained: “I know he’s got a young family himself, and he’s off doing other bits and bobs himself. Maybe one day we’ll be able to tempt him back, but not anything imminent, shall we say.”
