In an interview with the Sun, it suggests that the singer-turned-actor won’t be leaving the long-standing soap voluntarily but because the show has written him out.
Shayne, 33, having won The X Factor back in 2005 and has now turned his hand to acting, has played Aidan Connor since 2015. But in an interview with Corrie’s Faye Brookes, the actress speaks about how co-star Catherine Tyldesley, who plays Ward’s on-screen pregnant ex Eva Price, is also leaving but that Shayne has been pushed out.
‘I still feel really sad about it, and I think he’s probably going to be upset about it until he goes,’ Faye, 30, revealed. ‘It’s a difficult thing to deal with, but I totally understand why they’ve done it. I’m absolutely devastated that he’s going, but I also realise you have to go with the changes.’
‘He is like my brother off screen, too, and probably the only person I truly confide in at work,’ she says about Shayne. ‘He came in at the same time as me, he has the same background as my boyfriend, and he gets me and he gets Gareth (Gates).’
‘But he will take the bull by the horns and go with it,’ she reckons.
It’s led viewers to speculate the reasons for his departure despite Shayne himself publicly saying how excited he was about his exit storyline.
But with Catherine having confirmed her exit late last year, people are assuming that the pair may go off together, considering their characters are about to have a baby.
It would certainly make sense that, in a hypothetical sense, the estranged couple get back together and leave the cobbled streets of Weatherfield to start afresh with their new baby.
Shayne’s exit storyline is still a few months away, so for now fans will have to keep guessing how his character will eventually bow out.
