Sian Welby has revealed she sneaked non-alcoholic drinks into a gin bottle at parties in a bid to hide her pregnancy.

The Capital Breakfast star shared her and fiancé Jake Beckett's baby news live on the radio in February, saying: “I'm pregnant! I don't know how I've managed to keep it from you for this long, but I am, it's not a joke!"

During an appearance on ITV’s This Morning on Wednesday, she shared how she’d kept her news quiet until she was ready to spill the beans.

What, how, and why?

Her secrets came out as she and her Capital co-hosts Chris Stark and newcomer Jordan North, who has been in the role for just three days, shared that they hold some of their work meetings in the pub.

“It’s been so hard not to drink!” she giggled.

This Morning host Alison Hammond then asked Welby if she’d been expecting when they attended a Madonna concert together late last year.

“So when we went to Madonna were you with child?” she asked. “I think I was Alison,” the star confessed.

North then chimed in: “She came to mine on New Year’s Eve and she put non-alcoholic gin in a normal gin bottle and when she left I went, ‘Sian was a bit hammered wasn’t she?’ And she was stone cold sober!”

Stark then mentioned their work Christmas party, and Welby laughed: “Christmas, New Year, I’ve had so many… Madonna.” Gesturing at presenter Dermot O’Leary, she revealed she’d also been hiding her pregnancy when she co-hosted This Morning with him earlier this year.

“I had a week working with you, couldn’t fit in the trousers!” she said.

O’Leary asked if Welby had managed to keep it on the down low by pretending to be drunk at events. “I just think my general persona,” she laughed.

What else happened on This Morning?

During the show, North also talked about how he took over on Capital from Roman Kemp, who stepped down in March.

North started quickly after Kemp left, but explained: “The reason why we didn’t have a break is because we wanted to keep the momentum because Roman was great, big shoes to fill.”
