There’s Something A Bit Unusual About This Wedding Cake...

This wedding cake looks perfectly ordinary, right? Five tiers, ivory white, floral embellishments. It’s pretty big, but there’s nothing particularly interesting to report.

But spin it around and you’ll find that it’s hiding something quite unique to bride and groom Vicky and Daniel McCarthy: a secret identity.

Hidden under the unassuming white icing lies a tower of superheroes.

Guests at the McCarthy wedding earlier this month were dazzled by the cake’s double identity.

Each layer of the chocolate and vanilla fudge cake featured a Marvel hero: Captain America, Thor, The Incredible Hulk, Batman and Iron Man are all represented.

The cake, which was over a metre tall, weighs in at five stone and was made by Corinne Winwood and took over a week to construct.

Although the wedding was Alice In Wonderland themed, bride Vicky gave Marvel-obsessed groom Daniel dominion over the cake.

She told the Gazette: “He suggested that we have a ‘half and half’ cake – something we both like, a bit of both.”

“Both of us are very OTT – we wanted something massive, not a piddly little thing.”

The two newlyweds originally met at primary school and began dating fourteen years ago; they married in North Yorkshire earlier this month.
