Space Shuttle Endeavour Installed in Vertical Display at Los Angeles Science Center
The retired Space Shuttle Endeavor was lifted and installed into its vertical position at the California Science Center in Los Angeles on January 29, ahead of going on display to the public.
The shuttle’s 122-foot-long orbiter was lifted by a 450-foot crane “in a massive and technically challenging process that has never before been accomplished outside of a NASA or Air Force facility,” the California Science Center said.
The Endeavour will be on display at the newly constructed Samuel Oschin Air and Space Center, a major expansion of the California Science Center. The opening date has not yet been announced with work set to continue for a further 18 months.
