I spotted Pep Guardiola credit Man City mastermind to show he can match big Arsenal strength

Manchester City did what they needed to do on Sunday as they kept the pressure on Arsenal in the Premier League title race.

The Blues picked up a 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest to move just a point behind the Gunners who beat Tottenham Hotspur 3-2 earlier in the day. Erling Haaland's composed finish followed Josko Gvardiol's first half header to secure what was eventually a straightforward win.

However, the relegation-threatened hosts did not go down without a fight and another day it could have been a different story. It may not have been as dominant as Thursday's victory over Brighton but it is results that count at the end of the day.

With this in mind, MEN Sport has taken a look at some moments you may have missed from the victory in the East Midlands.

Guardiola credits the mastermind behind the opener

In North London earlier in the day, we witnessed the power of the set-piece as Nicolas Jover's tactics resulted in two of Arsenal's three goals against Spurs. Coincidentally, the Blues relied on a corner to break the deadlock in a tight first half.

Gvardiol did excellently to evade his marker and power a header in at the near post to ease the tension among the City players. After the goal, Pep Guardiola pointed straight towards Carlos Vicens who is in charge of the set-pieces for the Blues.

Premier League sent clear message

If the Premier League wanted to measure their popularity or lack thereof this weekend, tuning into the start of the Forest vs City game would have given them a clear reading. Both sets of fans loudly booed the Premier League's anthem and it was obvious how poorly the authorities of the so-called 'greatest league in the world' are seen.

Reports suggest next week that Forest will discover their appeal fate which will at least give them some closure. As for the Blues, their Financial Fair Play (FFP) charges continue to dangle above them.

Noel Gallagher joins the away end

Very few celebrity fans are as synonymous with City as the Gallagher brothers and it is hard to argue against their passion for the club. Among the travelling contingent in the away end at the City Ground was Noel who made a surprise appearance.

Sky Sports cameras picked him out in the second half when he was no doubt enjoying the Blues' performance more than in the first.

Haaland gets the last laugh after subtle Forest dig

All eyes were peeled to see if Haaland would join his teammates in Nottingham this weekend following his absence with injury and fortunately for the Blues, he did. However, the Forest programme writers clearly had little to say about the Norwegian as he was listed as one of two 'other players' in the opposition review alongside Scott Carson.

The 23-year-old made sure to make his presence felt on proceedings when he was brought on. Haaland looked bright and even managed to get himself on the scoresheet to seemingly put the fixture to bed.

It takes a brave person to write the talismanic City forward off - even when he's been out injured recently. Maybe Forest will choose to avoid skirting over him next time.
