Craig Levein is looking to add “different types” of players in his St Johnstone summer transfer shuffle.

The Perth club have already brought in Uche Ikpeazu and Josh Rae in their early summer business.

Levein has also handed Graham Carey, Drey Wright, Sven Sprangler and Cammy MacPherson new contracts and is looking to bolster his squad further after they spent the tail end of last season scrapping to avoid relegation.

Saints’ first team coach Andy Kirk spoke as the squad returned for pre-season training this week.

“We looked at the squad and identified the players we wanted to keep,” he said.

“Graham is very creative and scored some important goals, Cammy and Drey came back in for the last three or four games and really helped us.

“We missed Sven when he picked up his injury against Celtic.

“Now it’s about adding fresh faces, a bit of energy and some different types of ability to help what we already have and have a strong team on the pitch.”

Kirk previously worked with Ikpeazu at Hearts and knows he will add to their options.

He added: “He’s a big, strong boy who is something different to the other strikers we have.

“Hopefully he will get us up the pitch, hold the ball in and get us playing in the opposition half for longer.

“He will bring a different aspect to the attack and bring others into the game.”
