Star Wars Rebels Recruits Iconic Pilot Wedge Antilles

‘Star Wars Rebels’ is set to reveal how Wedge joined the Rebel Alliance.

He’s one of the greatest pilots in the Rebel Alliance, perhaps bested only by Luke Skywalker. But since his appearance in the original ‘Star Wars’ trilogy, we’ve seen very little of Wedge Antilles. Thankfully, that’s all about to change, as the legendary pilot has been recruited for the upcoming Season 3 of ‘Star Wars Rebels’.

And it even gives us a glimpse into the ace pilot’s past…

According to the new ‘Star Wars Rebels’ Season 3 trailer, it looks as though Wedge used to be an Imperial cadet before defecting to the Rebel Alliance… and it’s likely going to involve a daring mission from the Ghost crew to get him out of Imperial clutches.

But this isn’t exactly news to hardcore ‘Star Wars’ fans.

In fact, the recent ‘Star Wars’ books (in particular, ‘Star Wars: Aftermath’) explain that Wedge was recruited by the Rebel agent, Fulcrum… who was later revealed to be the former-Jedi, Ahsoka Tano.

Still, it’s the first time we’ve seen the young Wedge on screen.

And this might mean that we finally get a bit more official background on the pilot that would eventually accompany Luke Skywalker on both of his daring Death Star raids.

But could we see him return to the films?

Original actor Dennis Lawson is notoriously annoyed by his association with the ‘Star Wars’ saga… so it’s unlikely that we’ll see him reprise the role of Wedge for any of the upcoming ‘Star Wars’ sequels.

But that doesn’t rule out a recasting for ‘Rogue One’ or any other spin-off movies set around the time of the original trilogy… or even before.

Will it happen? For now, we’ll have to wait and see.
