There's still time to enter Louth Run for Life 2024, which is taking place on Sunday, June 30. This will be the 18th annual event, raising in total a massive £700,000 for Cancer Research UK.

The scenic course runs around Louth town centre and the beautiful Hubbard’s Hills. And although the title says run, don’t let its title put you off.

The event is open to all abilities whether you want to run, jog or walk this beautiful course. If you haven’t already entered the run, it is still not too late - and if you have already entered, why not encourage a friend, colleague or family member to take part with you.

Online entries have now closed but you can sign up on weekdays at Lovelles Estate Agents, Louth. On Tuesday, June 18, the team has a sign-up stall in the foyer at Meridian Leisure Centre on Wood Lane from 4-30pm until 8pm.

On Saturday, June 29, the team has a final sign-up stall on Louth Market from 8am until 2pm (near the flower stall). On race day there will also be a limited number of spaces for you to sign up, at our HQ based in Lovelles Estate Agents office, which will be open from 8am on race day.

In previous years on the day sign-ups have been extremely busy so please arrive in plenty of time before your event. If possible please don’t leave it until the day to sign up

Please note adult prices have now gone up to £15 since the early bird offer finished on May 31, 2024, although the price for the under 12s 1km run is still only £5. Every finisher gets a great medal and goodie bag

If you can’t or don’t want to run but would like to help marshal please also get in touch. For those signing up on the day, there will be entry forms will be available for you to complete.

These will be located at the entrance to the New Market Hall on New Street. Our volunteers will be on hand to assist you. You will then be allowed into Lovelles where you will then get your race number.

Please have the correct money with you for your entry (£15 for adults, £5 for under 12s). If you have an entry pack to pick up (that has been paid for) this can be collected from outside the New Market Hall

If you can’t get down to the market place on the day, or can’t compete, why not sponsor someone who is taking part. The main sponsor once again is Lovelles Estate Agency, which has kindly sponsored the race medals for all finishers.

Batemans Brewery has sponsored the adult numbers and GB Dance School have sponsored the junior race numbers. Bridge McFarland has once again kindly agreed to fund the postage for the race packs to you.

Morrisons and The Kings Head Hotel have supplied chocolate bars for the goodie bags and ‘Fitness Classes with Stacie’ have provided sweets for the junior goodie bags.

In a statement, race organisers said: "We would also like to thank our many other sponsors of which there are far too many to mention. We would like to thank them for their continued support of the event, which helps to cover the event's costs, by donating, money products and services.

"It is still not too late for your company to be a sponsor, If you are interested or would like to know more then please contact the team at louthrunforlife@yahoo.co.uk."

As the start and finish take place in Louth town centre, Mercer Row, Cornmarket and Upgate will be closed on race day from 8-30am until 1-30pm to all vehicles. Diversions will be in place so please arrive early.

Please try and arrive in the market place at least 20 minutes before your race start time. The day starts with the spectators and entrants gathering from around 8am onwards, once the HQ opens for registration.

The junior run (under 12s) will commence at 10.00am, followed by the women’s 5km run at 10.30am and finally the men’s 5km run gets underway at 11.45am. Everyone who finishes will receive a goodie bag and a commemorative medal.

There will be warm-up exercises before each race to get the runners in the mood. And the event will be compered again on stage by local DJ Rick Howell and Radio Lincolnshire presenter Karl Bird.

Donna Royle Maher will be getting everyone pumped up with warm up exercises before each race. The races will be started by Louth Mayor Cllr Julia Simmons.

This year Grimsby Town FC mascot ‘Mighty Mariner’ will also be present to help start the races and have photos with you. We want to create a fun atmosphere and encourage people to get into the spirit and wear fancy dress.

For those taking part please be mindful of the weather and ensure you have sun lotion and also bring water with you if it is a hot day. There will be a water station halfway around the 5km course (water station kindly sponsored by C&R Removals). There will also be a bottle of water available for every finisher as you go through the finish line funnel.

The organisers would like to thank Lincolnshire Coop once again for the kind donation of the bottled water for this event. Please ensure you have your race number pinned to the front of your clothing and remember to fill in your emergency details on the back of your number.

Organisers said: "We only allow people to run in the event they are registered in. This is for insurance and health and safety reasons. Juniors (under 12s) cannot participate in the adult events, and men/women can only run in their own specific event.

"We do however allow parents to assist/guide the under-12 children around the 1km junior event. At the start of each race we ask if participants can move to a position that relates to what type of entrant you are.

"We ask runners to congregate at the start line, with joggers behind, and walkers at the rear of the group. We have signs to highlight these areas.

"We also ask dog walkers to start at the back, and ensure you have water for your dog. We do not allow participants to run with their dogs.

"All of this is to try and ensure everyone gets away from the start in a safe manner. We also ask if you are feeling unwell on race day, please do not attend. Please think of the health and safety of all other participants.

"Photographs will be taken on the day as you cross the finish line, so it is important to wear your numbers on the FRONT or your T-shirt. Photos will be available to purchase from Colorgrafix Louth the following week (they will need your race number and the approximate time you finished). The monies from all purchases are to be kindly donated to CRUK.

"The junior 1km course will start on Mercer Row, outside the CRUK shop. The juniors will run down Eastgate before turning down Burnt Hill Lane and onto Queen Street and then Aswell Street. This leads right onto Kidgate and then right onto Upgate before heading back to the finish area in the Cornmarket.

"The route for the senior 5km races will be as in previous years, heading out of the town centre, down Gospelgate, onto Crowtree Lane and through the picturesque Hubbard’s Hills before heading back along Halfpenny Lane, Horncastle Road, Edward Street, back along Gospel gate, Mercer Row and into the finish in the Cornmarket.

"A detailed map of the route can be found on our Facebook page. After the men’s run, the fun continues at The Kings Head Hotel, where there will be live music and a hot food available.

"A great line up of bands will be playing throughout the afternoon from 1pm. All monies raised throughout the afternoon will be added to our total for Cancer Research UK. This is a Cancer Research UK event.

"By taking part in our event you agree that all monies (including sponsor money) will be raised solely for Cancer Research UK. You are not permitted to raise money for other charities.

"Your entry may be void (and not refunded) if you are found to be raising monies for any charity other than Cancer Research UK. To keep up to date with run news, check out our Facebook group for regular updates in the days leading up to the event.

"You can also follow us on Twitter and Instagram. We have also just launched a podcast called ‘Cancer Can Do One’. This covers various topics involving cancer so why not give it a listen.

"Look forward to seeing everybody on June 30 and helping to raise amazing amounts of money for a cause close to so many people. If you are able to raise a little bit of sponsorship it really helps to boost the amount raised to our next target - £750,000.

"The Louth Run for Life group are always looking for volunteers to help on the day. If you are interested in helping, please contact Simon on 07971 159138, or on louthrunforlife@yahoo.co.uk. If you would like more information or to chat about our event, please contact me."
