Yahoo News Stray Kids and Jennie at the Met Gala: K-Pop Stars Shine Bright on Red Carpet
With a growing number of K-Pop stars securing luxury brand ambassadorships, it’s no surprise that a batch of young stars made a splash on the Met Gala red carpet Monday night.
Met Gala veteran Jennie of the chart-topping girl group BLACKPINK arrived in a blue custom Alaïa minidress, meanwhile global sensations Stray Kids joined Tommy and Dee Hilfiger at fashion’s biggest night.

The eight-member boy group (comprised of Bang Chan, Lee Know, Changbin, Han, Hyunjin, Felix, Seungmin and I.N) looked stunning in custom Tommy Hilfiger featuring the brand’s signature red, white and blue color palette with rich gold accents. The group started the night in sleek overcoats before revealing their final look.
In an interview on the red carpet with Vogue, the group’s leader, Bang Chan, praised Hilfiger for bringing the group. “We’re stoked to be here, and if it wasn’t for Tommy, we would not be here,” Bang Chan said. “Thank you to Tommy for inviting us, all eight of us,” he added.
Hilfiger praised the group right back. “They are as modern as you can get,” he said. “They are modern prep, and they’re global superstars.”
This year marks the group’s first Met Gala appearance, but it’s certainly not their first time working with Tommy Hilfiger. Just last month, the group joined the brand in their spring campaign.
Jennie’s minidress featured a daring yet fun cutout featuring a charmed waist chain. The 28-year-old K-Pop powerhouse soloist and girl group member is known for her fashion sense along with her rapping and singing ability.
This year’s dress was quite different from her Met Gala debut in 2023. The singer, who became a Chanel ambassador in 2021, was right on theme at last year’s event celebrating “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line Of Beauty.”
This year’s dress code, “The Garden of Time,” takes its cue from the 1962 short story of the same name by J.G. Ballard, which dovetails nicely with the latest Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute exhibition, Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion, which opens to the public on Friday, May 10. The Andrew Bolton-curated show spotlights fragile pieces from the institute’s archives, all viewed through a lens of nature. The exhibit’s coffee table book will be released on June 18.
