There is a stunning location that features in the Harry Potter film franchise that you can visit for free just two-hours from Liverpool.

In Merseyside, we're lucky to have so many fantastic destinations on our doorstep, from a secluded area with a beautiful beach that's 'unlike anywhere else' to a bustling village with a 'country-esque feel about it' that's growing in popularity by the day and much more. But with the weather brightening up and summer fast-approaching, many of us get the urge to explore further afield.

And there's definitely plenty of destinations to choose from you can get to under two hours from the city. As many will know, Yorkshire is not too far away and has plenty of scenic walks to boast.

So I wanted to revisit one of my favourites - Malham Cove. This popular route covers the stunning landscape of Malham Cove, Gordale Scar, Janet’s Foss waterfall and Malham Tarn, which is Britain’s highest lake.

Last year, it also featured of ITV’s Britain’s Favourite Walks, presented by Julia Bradbury. I previously visited with my boyfriend for a day trip, after seeing lots of beautiful photos posted on social media.

The site - around a two-hour drive from Liverpool - is steeped in history, looks out over the Village of Malham and has attracted visitors for centuries. But in more recent years, it's seen Harry Potter fans arrive in their masses.

In Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part one, scenes were filmed all around the area, including the cove and Malham Tarn. Fans will notice the natural limestone formation is the location where Harry and Hermione apparate to after an argument with Ron Weasley.

So as a Harry Potter fan myself, I was excited to get up there and see it in all its glory for myself.

But Malham Cove is a popular tourist attraction in its own right and is definitely worth seeking out, whether you're a fan of the films or not. The 260ft high limestone formation has breathtaking views and to complete the walk and all the sights to see takes around two to three-hours.

There are also lovely pubs to stop off in in the nearby Malham Village. There are different routes to take, but we headed first towards Malham Cove after parking up.

It was an easy path to follow and you can't miss the face of the limestone cliff as you head towards it. There are photo opportunities of Malham Cove below, but up top is where the spectacular views are.

It's steep heading up the flight of steps on the left-hand side and on busy weekends like when we went, you usually follow a crowd up there and it could take a little longer. But regardless of the weather, I'd suggest taking a pair of decent shoes or walking boots as there's plenty to see that you won't want to miss.

The cliff formation is curved like an amphitheatre and the limestone is almost like stepping stones. As we got to the top, people were standing at all different levels, some in the cracks between the limestone and others on top.

There were also some dogs exploring and weaving in between them. The views from the top of Malham Cove were really something else and as amazing as your pictures may be, they will never fully do justice to what you see for yourself.

For the most part, were lucky enough to have the weather on our side, so sat and ate a packed lunch as we soaked up the sunny scenery in between the dull intervals. As big kids, it was also fun just spending time jumping from one stone to the other - as for me, I'd never seen anything quite like it.

From there, we headed to another natural wonder, along the top of the cove and towards Gordale Scar. A jewel in the crown of the National Park, the hidden gorge boasts two waterfalls that cascade into its middle.

Another picturesque area, Gordale Scar itself has also featured on screen in recent years. If you're a fan of Netflix series The Wticher, you may recognise the area appearing in a Season Two. episode

A short walk from Gordale Scar, walkers can also find Janet’s Foss. Nestled in the woodland, the waterfall and its pool is small but very beautiful.

It's fairly easy to follow the crowd and research the area before you go and there's also signposts and maps from an information centre when you arrive. The entire area is well worth a visit and because of how much there is to see - I felt like I'd been on three walks in one when it came to the different sights I spent time at..
