AN event held in memory of a Ringwood man has been hailed a ‘success’.

The ‘Hooley Memorial Beer Festival’ was hosted on Saturday, June 22, in memory of Joseph Omar, better known as Hooley.

Joseph’s family and friends joined other locals at the Ellingham and Ringwood Rugby Club for a football tournament, before enjoying BBQ food and drinks in the sun.

The event, organised by those closest to Hooley, marked the third anniversary of Joseph’s passing, while raising funds for the RFU Injured Players Foundation.

The charity, which provides support to injured rugby players, had been chosen to honour Joseph’s love of the sport.

Joseph’s family told the Daily Echo: “Joseph’s family wish to express their huge gratitude to the many friends whose tireless energy and enthusiasm for organising, attending and supporting the festival made it such a fitting event.

“With special thanks to Joseph’s friends and the wider community, ERRFC and the sponsors and for everyone for their support.

“The event raised funds for The RFU Injured Players Foundation Charity and made us all very proud.”

Now in its second year, the festival has established itself as a special fixture in the Ringwood calendar.

Joseph’s family and friends are hoping for another successful event in 2025, and have issued a reminder that the festival is open to all.

The event organisers said: "We were so pleased to see so many people being treated to some fantastic football, enjoying the sun with their friends, and celebrating our dear mate, Hooley.

"A huge thanks to Ellingham & Ringwood Rugby Club for hosting an event that was more successful than we'd even imagined - we're already buzzing for next year.

"If you don't already, give us a follow on instagram at @hooley_invitational to see pictures of the day and exciting news about next year."
