'Summer of Sport in the City' to bring sport games to Londoners during Olympics

London is to host a series of pop-up sports and activities from July to kick off a ‘Summer of Sport in the City.’

The collaboration between City Corporation, local Business Improvement Districts and Central London Alliance CIC will bring sporting games to the capital, including beach volleyball, pickleball, table tennis, yogalates and crazy golf.

Games are to be held in the Square Mile to commemorate the global sporting season amid the Olympics and Paralympics events.

Activities will run from July 1 to September and will see games played at over 10 London locations, including Paternoster Square, St Paul’s Cathedral Churchyard, Aldgate Square, the Crescent, Christchurch Greyfriars and Church Garden.

Others will be at St Giles Cripplegate, Seething Lane Garden and meandering through Carter Lane.

City of London Corporation Policy Chairman, Chris Hayward, said: “This is a must-visit celebration of sport across the Square Mile which is fantastic fun for all.

“Summer of Sport is a collaborative effort between the City Corporation and our local Business Improvement Districts to animate the Square Mile through the power of partnership and play...”

Events in the Square Mile will be suitable for all ages and abilities and have been arranged in a bid to encourage more visitors from London, the UK and further afield to visit the area for leisure activities.

The events are said to follow on the success of the 2023 installation of a padel court in The Crescent.
