Paul Pogba transfer: PSG ready to give Manchester United star Old Trafford exit after Real Madrid impasse
Paris Saint-Germain are willing to give Paul Pogba a way out of Manchester United, as they consider a move for the French star. The 26-year-old on Sunday finally made his desire to leave Old Trafford clear, stating that it’s time for a “new challenge”, but many sources say he’s for a long time been “desperate to leave”.Real Madrid has been his No 1 option, and Zinedine Zidane wants Pogba at any price, but the Bernabeu hierarchy are not keen to spend more than £110m after a summer that has already seen them break £350m.The midfielder would consider a return to Juventus, but the impasse has brought PSG back in, as they weigh up the situation. There is now a possibility that they sell Neymar this summer, meaning they would consider a creative player.United’s official stance is that Pogba is not for sale, and it would take a bid of in excess of £150m to change that. There are existing channels of discussion between the two clubs, however, especially given United’s interest in Thomas Muenier, while they are also keen on Adrien Rabiot, who has refused a new deal in Paris with his contract now set to expire. Pogba’s agent Mino Raiola meanwhile has a strong relationship with PSG - possibly stronger than with any other club - and his client Mattijs de Ligt is currently discussing a potential transfer from Ajax. The bottom line is however that it would take a huge offer to prise Pogba from United.
The window is open and clubs are beginning the thankless task of doing their business early enough to give their managers a full season with their new squads.
But as has been the case for years, players and clubs hold on for just the right deal, dragging out negotiations over months.
The truncated window to fall in line with the start of the Premier League season may help to some extent, yet nobody is expecting the biggest deals to be neatly packaged together before July comes.
Eden Hazard and Paul Pogba look to be the biggest dominos to fall, and once Real Madrid strike a deal, or not, others will follow.
It promises to be a busy few weeks, with the groundwork well underway before the Champions League final has even been played.
