Summer's started! Britain basks in long-overdue sun as temperatures hit 27C

It’s been a long time coming, but it seems that Britain could finally be receiving its first look at summer.

The Met Office says 28C is ‘possible’ in London today.

Temperatures on Wednesday rose to 25C in the South East, a whole 10C higher than the UK average for this time of year, and a huge contrast from the freezing weather that has hit the UK over the last few months.

Met Office spokesman Oli Claydon said: ‘After quite a dull and chilly start to spring this is the first bout of real warm sunshine that we’ve seen.

‘The sun at this time of year is nearly equally as strong as it can be in the summer so people just need to be cautious of that and make sure that they do look after themselves.’
