From ‘Superman’ to ‘Liverpool’ Have you got one of 2018’s worst passwords?
Computer hacking has been in the news like never before this year – with data breaches affecting millions, and Russian hackers thought to be targeting the West.
But it seems that most of us have totally failed to learn our lessons about password hygiene, according to a survey of 61.5 million passwords by security experts Dashlane
As usual, people are basing passwords on brands, music, films and football teams – all predictable choices which can be easily broken by hackers.
Others relied on ‘password walking’ – using keys adjacent to each other on the keyboard, which is again easy prey for cyber attackers.

Dr. Gang Wang, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science at Virginia Tech led the research.
Dr Wang says, ‘It is difficult for humans to memorise unique passwords for the 150+ accounts the average person has. Inevitably, people reuse or slightly modify them, which is a dangerous practice. This danger has been amplified by the massive data breaches which have given attackers more effective tools for guessing and hacking passwords.
