A teacher who had sex with one of her teenage pupils is set to avoid charges by entering a rehab programme.

Meghan Eagan, 26, was arrested after it was alleged that she had sex with the unidentified 19-year-old in Waterbury, Connecticut, USA, last year.

Despite the teen telling police that sex was consensual, it is illegal for teachers to have any sexual contact with pupils.

Eagan was charged with second-degree assault but the teen is not willing to testify against her.

As a result, the the judge in her case agreed to grant her application into an accelerated rehab programme.

The former teacher will have to serve 200 hours of community service and will be placed on a probationary period for two years.
