SETTLE Parish Church. Holy Ascension, is preparing to celebrate this year's Paris Olympics with its own version of the highly anticipated games.

On Saturday, August 3, the church will be hosting a Teddy Olympics Family Fun Day, which will include death-defying acts with teddy bears taking centre-stage on a zip wire from the church tower.

A spokesperson for the church said: "Plans for this community event are going well. There will be lots to see, do and enjoy - even a chance for all brave Teddy Bears to soar across the churchyard on a zip wire from the church tower. Local historian Sarah Lister has prepared a child friendly Teddy's Churchyard Trail. There'll be live music, barbecue, craft stalls, games and much more."

In preparation for the event, tower captain Stuart Heath and churchwarden John Diggles strapped a teddy bear to a bucket before it was roped to the top of the church tower.
