Ten lorries engulfed in huge fire at industrial park

Ten lorries were engulfed in a huge fire at a Kirkby industrial estate overnight.

Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service were called to an industrial park on Pingwood Lane in Tower Hill, Kirkby at 11.18pm on Saturday (June 29). Crews were alerted at 11.18pm and on scene at 11.26pm, with five fire engines in attendance.

On arriving at the scene, fire crews found seven articulated lorries alight and began fighting the fire with high pressure hose reel jets. Ten vehicles were involved in the blaze, with crews using main jets and hose reel jets to contain it.

Those living in the area were urged to keep their doors and windows closed.

An update issued by the fire service at 2am today (June 30) said: "The main seats of fire have now been extinguished and fire crews are now checking for hot spots and damping down as required."
