Ten-year-old Taunton girl raises over £1,100 for charity with haircut

A 10-YEAR-OLD Taunton girl has raised over £1,100 for The Little Princess Trust by cutting her long locks.

Alani Wyatt and her mother Sonya organised a fundraiser at Nerrols Primary School and Nursery last weekend, on Saturday, May 25.

Supporters gathered around to watch Alani brave a dramatic haircut in the name of charity, as they enjoyed refreshments donated by local businesses.

The Little Princess Trust is a charity that provides free real hair wigs to children and people up to 24 years old who have lost their own hair through cancer treatment or other conditions. They also fund childhood cancer research.

Sonya said: "My daughter Alani has raised over £1100 plus gift aid for The Little Princess Trust.

"Alani and I organised a fundraiser at school where she had her hair cut to donate to the charity.

"We had asked local shops and supermarkets for donations of cake, tea, coffee etc so that her supporters could come and watch her having the cut, enjoy refreshments and take part in a raffle, tombola, and guess the weight of the cake.

"We were so happy with the support and the amount raised."

The proud mother added that a "special thanks" was due to Matt Kerton, the "amazing" Head Teacher of Nerrols Primary School and Nursery.

Sonya added: "Mr Kerton allowed us to have the event at the school on a weekend and also helped on the day."

Alani's hair was cut in front of the crowds by the "kind and brilliant" Nicola Burt, Sonya said.

The family thanks all of the businesses who donated to the refreshments and raffle prizes — including Sophia Rodrigues of Skewer House/Corner Club who donated a "fantastic" cake to guess the weight of.

Sonya added: "A huge thanks to our wonderful friend Nicola Grant whose help at the event made it run smoothly.

"Also to Pedro Meredith of Stagecoach Taunton who let us continue fundraising at the end of the Saturday session at Parkfield School.

"Alani was really pleased with the amount raised and would like to thank everyone that supported her."
