Terrifying Netflix show outshines 'Squid Game' with gripping survival drama
A new Netflix thriller that's being hailed as 'better than Squid Game' is causing quite a stir on the streaming platform, as fans can't get enough. The 8 Show presents an intriguing concept where eight financially struggling contestants participate in a high-stakes reality competition.
They are required to spend 100 days in a controlled environment where basic necessities come with exorbitant price tags, and these costs are deducted from the overall prize money. This cunning arrangement sparks intense psychological and social dynamics among the participants as they grapple with survival and co-operation while competing for the substantial cash prize.
The show was launched earlier this month and has already amassed a legion of fans and scored a respectable 7.3 on IMDb, reports the Mirror.
Penned and directed by Han Jae-rim, the series is based on the Money Game 'webtoon', a form of digital comic that originated in South Korea and is read vertically by scrolling down on a computer or smartphone.
The 8 Show boasts a stellar cast including Ryu Joon Yeol, Chun Woo Hee, and Park Jeong Min, and blends elements of psychological thriller, mystery, and drama.
It intriguingly explores the impact of severe financial stress and the darker aspects of human nature. Unlike some survival dramas, The 8 Show prioritises psychological tension over physical violence, drawing parallels with other shows in the genre like Squid Game and Liar Game.
