Tesla passenger dies and five others injured after crash with double decker bus

A man tragically died after the Tesla he was travelling in collided with a double decker bus. Five other people were injured in the crash including the driver of the Tesla and three other passengers from the vehicle.

The bus driver was also treated for minor injuries at the scene. The incident happened on the B1224 Wetherby Road, near Rufforth in York, at around 9.20am on Saturday, June 29. Two air ambulances along with three other ambulance vehicles, a Hazardous Area Response Team and North Yorkshire Police attended the scene.

A 31-year-old man from the Newcastle area, who was a passenger in the Tesla, was pronounced dead at the scene. His family are being supported by specially trained officers.

A 32-year-old man from the Teesside area who was driving the Tesla suffered serious injuries and three other passengers in the Tesla were taken to hospital along with the bus driver, The Mirror reports.

The B1224 remained closed while police carried out their investigation work but was reopened at 5.25pm on Saturday, June 29. North Yorkshire Police have since appealed for information as they investigate what happened.

A spokesperson for the force said: "North Yorkshire Police is appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage after a fatal collision between a white Tesla Model 3 car and a blue and white double decker bus on the B1224 Wetherby Road, close to the junction with the A1237, at around 9.20am on Saturday (29 June 2024).

"Sadly, a passenger in the Tesla, a 31-year-old man from the Newcastle area, was pronounced deceased at the scene. His family have been informed and are receiving support. The driver of the Tesla, a 32-year-old man from the Teesside area, was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

"Three other passengers in the Tesla and the driver of the bus were treated at hospital for minor injuries. The B1224 road closure remained in place until 5.25pm. Witnesses to the collision or anyone with relevant dashcam footage are urged to come forward without delay if they have not done so already. We also want to hear from anyone who recalls seeing either the white Tesla car or the blue and white double decker bus in the lead up to the incident."
