The Leftovers Season 3 trailer teases the end of the world

It’s the end of the world as we know it… again.

A new trailer for The Leftovers Season 3 has appeared online, with Kevin Garvey jetting off to pastures new. Again. This time, he and Nora are headed to Australia… but they still can’t leave their troubles behind them.

And it’s not just the Garvey’s who are in trouble, either.

Here’s the awesome new trailer:

As you can see, The Leftovers hasn’t stepped away from its grim and gritty tone, with just as much violence, soul searching and civil unrest as the previous seasons. And with an ominous voiceover teasing very bad things to come, we can expect some troubling times ahead.

So what did we learn from the new trailer?

Let’s not mince our words here – Kevin Garvey has seemingly had some very troubling mental health issues throughout the first and second seasons of The Leftovers. He’s been through the mill, along with the rest of humanity, and the once level-headed police chief ended up seeing dead people – much like his certifiable father, Kevin Garvey Sr.

Could the trailer’s ominous voiceover be a figment of Kevin’s imagination?

“G’day ladies and gentlemen,” says the air hostess. “As we prepare to board our flight to Melbourne, please do so in a calm and orderly fashion.”

“While worldwide flooding is expected, we should be taking off before the rain begins. In the event of cabin decompression, place your oxygen masks over your mouth as we all prepare to take our last breath. Please be sure to keep your seatbelt fastened as everything you know and love will soon be gone.”

Chilling. But is it all in Garvey’s head or will these rapturous events come to pass?

Much like his own father, it looks as though Tom has finally come around to the idea of suiting up as a lawman. That’s right, the prodigal son has returned, and in the new trailer he can be seen taking up a badge and gun as he follows in his family’s tradition – becoming a police officer.

And by the looks of it, he’s staying in Texas.

His shoulder patch shows a Texas police officers patch, and with the riotous events unfolding around him, it looks as though things haven’t exactly calmed down in the town of Miracle since the end of Season 2.

Could Tom help put things right? I wouldn’t bank on it.

Another look at The Departure?

It’s a blink-and-you’ll miss it shot, but it looks as though we might get another look at what happened during The Departure – the event where 2% of the world’s population vanished in the blink of an eye.

And this time, it’s from Kevin Garvey Sr’s perspective.

The show in question shows Garvey Sr suited up in his old police chief uniform… and judging by his surroundings, that looks like he’s back in the good old USA. But look at the burning cars and panic on those civilians faces. It’s highly likely that we finally find out exactly what happened to Garvey Sr during The Departure.

And it might explain why he went off the deep end.
