Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant's iconic sitcom The Office hit TV screens back in 20 years ago this month, in 2001. Launched on BBC Two with little fanfare, its now much-copied mockumentary style caught viewers by surprise, with some not sure if it was real or not.

The sitcom broke the mould by shunning canned laughter and leaving the audience to decide what they found funny.

Very soon the world fell in love with the show's cringe-inducing humour — making it a huge hit.

While he had been working in entertainment for many years it was a late rise to fame for the then 40-year-old Ricky Gervais, who co-wrote and starred in The Office as terrible manager and king of social faux-pas David Brent.

And while it's US spin-off went on to run for nine seasons, The Office ran for just two series and a double Christmas special. Fans were left eager for more, but resorted to watching the same 14 episodes over and over to get their Wernham Hogg fix.

So as the show celebrates its 20th anniversary, does it still cling on to your memory as hard as David Brent trying to get a laugh out of his colleagues?

Take this 15 question multiple choice quiz to find out if you're as much of a Wernham Hogg whizz as Gareth Keenan is at Top Trumps, of if you're just the Office loser.
