Thousands Forced to Flee as Wildfires Burn on Greek Holiday Island

More than 2,000 people were evacuated from the island of Rhodes, Greece, as wildfires burned late on Saturday, July 22, the Hellenic Fire Service said.

Footage recorded by Darren Bien shows the glow of the fire, as seen from the town of Pefki.

The Greek Emergency Communications Service said on Twitter on Saturday night that evacuations had been ordered for Pefki, Lindos and Kalathos.

Earlier in the evening, the Hellenic Fire Service said that more than 2,000 people had been evacuated from Rhodes by sea due to the fires.
