The Walking Dead has paid tribute to one of its biggest superfans, who sadly passed away from lung cancer.

Lisa Williams, who was a regular at fan conventions and known by the cast members and crew, passed away yesterday (March 3). The official Twitter account for the show led the tributes.

"We're deeply saddened to learn about the passing of Lisa Williams," the account wrote, "who was one of the most passionate people (and#TWD fans) you could meet.

"The outpouring of love that's coming with this news goes to show how much of an impact she had on #TWDFamily. You will be missed.."

Actors Norman Reedus (Daryl) and Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Neegan), who previously recorded a video wishing Lisa well, have also posted tributes to her on their social media.

"Gonna miss u Lisa. You were always so cool and always had a smile for everyone," Reedus write, and posted a photo of himself alongside her.

Morgan also shared a photo of himself with Lisa, writing: "Real blessed that we get to meet a lot of great and special people.... Lisa always stood out as one of the best. She will be missed by all of us that were lucky enough to know her. Xxxjd"

Lisa Williams actually got to interview the cast as part of a competition, and you can listen to it right here.

The Walking Dead airs on AMC on Sundays at 9/8c on in the US, and on FOX and NOW TV on Mondays at 9pm in the UK.
