Two critical and three others injured in early-hours house fire

Two people were fighting for their lives after a fire ripped through a Black Country home, leaving three others injured. A man and woman were taken to hospital in a critical condition following the early hours blaze in Plascom Road, Wolverhampton.

Emergency services were called to the semi-detached property at 1.09am on Tuesday, June 25. West Midlands Fire Service said crews arrived within five minutes of getting the 999 call.

The fire was put out by 4.30am, with investigations into the cause due to be carried out throughout the day. Medics treated five casualties in total, who all received hospital treatment.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called to reports of a property fire on Plascom Road at 1.09am. Four ambulances, two paramedic officers, a MERIT trauma doctor and the Midlands Air Ambulance critical care car attended the scene.

"On arrival we discovered five patients, two of whom, a man and a woman were found in a critical condition. They received specialist trauma care at the scene before being transported to hospital.

"A teenage male was treated for serious injuries, before being taken to the same hospital. Two further adult males were treated for minor injuries before being taken to hospital."

West Midlands Fire Service said the fire was now a "police-led incident". West Midlands Police has been approached for comment. Follow our live blog for the latest updates on this breaking news story.
