Two of Wales's most stunning destinations are amongst the top places to go for an "off-grid" camping experience. Eryri National Park and Bannau Brycheiniog (Snowdonia and Brecon Beacon National Parks) place at three and four in a top 10 list of the most searched areas to go wild camping.

With summer approaching, Auto Trader's research has revealed the best road-trip destinations in the UK for an “off-grid” camping experience and found some perfect hideaway campsites for those hoping to get away this summer. Going on 'off-road' adventures with friends and family is becoming the next big trend according to Pinterest, with searches for 'off-road camping' going up by 90% and 'adventure car' up by 80%. Wild camping is only legal in Wales if you have the landowner's permission.

At number four is Bannau Brycheiniog described by the publication as "home to the highest peak in the south of the UK, are also home to jaw-dropping landscapes that will impress any open-road traveller. The Black Mountain Pass is a delightfully scenic road, commonly referred to as the best road in Wales." They tipped Wye Glamping as a place to stay for a "a more luxe ‘wild’ camping experience.

They offer wooden cabins in the woods or canvas yurts overlooking the mountains. And at number five of the list is Eryri National Park which Auto Trader suggests Ysgubor Wen Eco Camping for impressive, panoramic views of the national park. And adds: "For those who may want to go on an off-grid adventure but aren’t keen on hiking all the way up Mount Snowdon, you can drive ‘a circle of Snowdon’ route, that will take you all the way around it, spotting the summit at various points on your journey."

Ysgubor Wen is an exclusive adult-only site on a private nature reserve and a countryside setting and has secluded, private pitches with sea and mountain views.

Don't forget, though, most places in the UK (except for some places within Dartmoor and Scotland), require wild-campers to seek permissions from the home/landowners before staying overnight. With a fine or penalty for camping without permission being the last thing anyone wants during their getaway, the experts at Auto Trader suggest the above best legal campsites for a road trip that will provide that fantastic ‘off-grid’ experience.
