Tyler Roberts sets Birmingham City target after completing Las Vegas mission with Tom Brady coach

Tyler Roberts is planning to use the heartache from his maiden Birmingham City campaign to fuel him in his second season.

The forward endured a difficult start to his Blues career with a calf injury restricting him to one appearance before Christmas. Roberts wasn’t able to find any rhythm upon his return to fitness and completed the season without scoring in 19 appearances.

With three years remaining on a four-year contract and successive injury-hit campaigns, Roberts is facing up to the prospect of a year in League One with Blues. The 25-year-old hasn’t played in the third tier since a loan spell with Walsall six-and-a-half years ago.

Roberts is looking to hit the ground running next season and started his preparation for pre-season weeks ago by jetting off to Las Vegas to train with Rob Brennan, one of two coaches Tom Brady deployed at Blues’ training ground last season.

Reflecting on his time in the states, Roberts posted on Instagram: “Real successful trip. Want to big up my man @robbrennan26 @tbrxsports for putting a lot of work into helping me improve not only physically but mentally and I cannot forget his amazing wife @abren713. You are two pure hearted people, never change!

“Last season was very frustrating and ended with heartbreak but it fuelled me with so much motivation and focus to get straight to work and prepare to make next year successful. Not long to go now.”

Roberts has now jetted to Marbella to continue his preparation in a camp led by former Olympic sprinter Leon Reid. Blues right-back Ethan Laird and former loanee Emanuel Aiwu are also part of the training camp.
