The bank holiday weekend is underway, following a few days of warmer weather. But will those temperatures continue?

Across the UK, the Met Office says there will be some warm sunshine today (May 4), though some showery rain too. Most northern areas will have a cloudy day with showery rain, it will be locally heavy and perhaps thundery, according to the forecaster.

Northwest Scotland, central and southern England, along with south Wales will be brighter with warm sunny spells, though some heavy showers, especially south east England.

This evening, Scotland, Northern Ireland and north west England will be cloudy with patchy rain, and some rain will be arriving in Cornwall later. The temperatures will turn chilly elsewhere with clear spells and mist or fog patches.

On Sunday, looking across the country, the Met Office says it will be often rather cloudy in the north with some showery rain, heaviest across Scotland. Outbreaks of rain also will affect parts of southwest England, with warm sunshine and isolated showers elsewhere.

Looking further ahead to the outlook for Monday to Wednesday, there will be warm sunshine on bank holiday Monday, though with heavy showers too. The showers will be fewer in number and less heavy on Tuesday.

The forecast will be mostly fine and warm midweek, though some rain far north west.
