UK faces first 28C day of year next week with one city in England hottest

UK weather maps have been scorched fiery red - with forecasters and meteorologists warning an uptick in temperatures could trigger the first proper heatwave of the year. A heatwave could smash into the country and send the mercury up to the mid-to-high 20s.

WX Charts maps and charts show the country turning crimson on the weather maps, which are projected using Met Desk data. The mercury could hit 28C in London as well as 25C across the north of the country, with the south, south west, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland hitting 25C.

The outlook for the weekend, as predicted by the Met Office, explains: "Bright or sunny spells and a few showers on Saturday. High pressure building to bring a lot of dry weather during Sunday and Monday. Becoming more widely very warm."

The far north and northwest of the UK will be cloudy with some rain at times on Thursday June 20, the Met Office has gone on to say.. Elsewhere it will remain dry with clear periods and there will be a few fog patches forming later, too, the Met Office explains.

The forecast adds ahead of Friday (June 21) in the UK tomorrow: "Outbreaks of showery rain will develop across Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales and the west of England. Elsewhere it will stay largely dry with spells of sunshine. Very warm in places."

The BBC Weather forecast looking ahead from Saturday (June 22) onwards says: "Saturday looks to see a few scattered showers lingering until early afternoon but it will become a drier and brighter day across the UK later. A settled and warmer day on Sunday, but thick cloud and some drizzle in the north-west."

It adds: "Monday will see thick cloud building in across most of the country with some brighter breaks developing later in the day."
