The UK is the fourth best country in the world, according to a poll.

The 2018 Best Countries report ranks countries according to attributes it deems “relevant to the success of a modern nation” such as economic influence, quality of life and reputation.

Based on a survey of 21,000 people including business leaders, “informed elites” and the general public, it is a joint project by US News & World Report, marketing company Y&R and the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School.

According to the report, Switzerland tops the table, making it the best country in the world, followed by Canada then Germany.

The UK comes in at number four, down from third place in 2017.

The report mentions the uncertainty about the UK’s role following the 2016 vote to leave the EU, as well as the terror attacks that hit the country in 2017.
