UK set for 'hotter than Croatia' heatwave but one part of England will miss out

UK weather maps show the country will be hotter than Dubrovnik and Split in the coming days - but one area will be soaked by rain. Met Office maps have revealed that parts of the country, namely Cornwall in England, will be hit by some rain.

It comes despite 21C highs sending the UK warmer than Croatia. The BBC Weather team warns: "Tonight, a band of heavier, showery rain will reach western Scotland. Cloudy with patchy rain in west England and Wales. Clear spells and variable cloud elsewhere. A mild night.

"Tomorrow will see heavy, showery rain in Northern Ireland and Scotland, with scattered showers moving in behind. Patchy rain in northern England and Wales." The weekend forecast and outlook from the Beeb goes on to state: "Sunny and warm in the south-east."

Terry Scholey, from Netweather.TV, said: "While temperatures remain significantly above normal in the East and South, cooler weather will slowly work its way in from the North West. Scotland and Northern Ireland will see some rain followed by blustery showers. Still, as showers work slowly into England and Wales, they'll tend to fade, leaving the south, in particular, with another mainly dry, relatively warm day."

He added: "England and Wales continue mainly dry into the evening and after dark, with just a few showers for a time, mainly in the north and east. Scotland and Northern Ireland, particularly the north and west, see further showers, but there'll also be clearer intervals. It'll begin to feel somewhat colder almost everywhere in a Westerly breeze, with the lowest temperatures of 2 to 5C in the north and 6 to 9C further south."

The Met Office outlook for the weekend currently reads: "Largely dry on Saturday with hazy sunshine at times." "Sunny spells and occasional showers on Sunday," it goes on to add. "Showers becoming more widespread and heavier on Monday, with temperatures returning to average. Breezy."
