Police interrupted a couple’s romantic Valentine’s Day lunch to arrest them on suspicion of burglary.

The man and woman, in their 30s, were sitting down to eat at a top restaurant in Mayfair, central London, when detectives arrived on Friday.

Police were keen to question them about two residential burglaries.

Officers investigating the offences - which saw high-value clothes and handbags stolen from a home in Bruton Lane on 3 February - identified the male suspect on CCTV and tracked back to see he had calmly visited the restaurant in the late morning just minutes before allegedly breaking into the female victim's address.
