Vanessa Feltz has admitted she's a "rotten picker" when it comes to men and that she signed up to Channel 4's Celebs Go Dating because the show's experts "couldn’t do worse" than her.

The TV star recently split from long-term boyfriend Ben Ofoedu, who she'd been with since 2005, and he later confessed that he’d had an affair eight years earlier.

Feltz, 61, has now gone onto the dating show to give romance another shot.

Opening up about the experience on This Morning, she said: "I think dating is damn difficult, I really do, and obviously I haven’t done it for 17 years."

"It is not easy and actually when it's not going well it's like wading through treacle, it's terribly difficult," she added.

Asked why she signed up, the TV star said: "Listen I have been, I think it's all public record, a rotten picker, I haven't been good at picking, I really haven't.

"I just thought the agents… must be able to do better than I've done.

"I mean they couldn’t do worse, let's face it."

Feltz revealed she'd had "at least 13" dates for the programme, although she refused to be drawn about the outcome as it has yet to air.

"I can't give anything much away," she teased, joking that she was "flawless" on her dates but that her suitors were "not necessarily deserving of my charms".

Feltz and Ofoedu's split was confirmed in February, with the TV star saying in a video: “I honestly didn’t know what to say to you on Instagram.

"And so I just wanted to say obviously I feel incredibly sad and I’m pretty disappointed and shocked and all those horrible things, but also full of resolve.
