Vicente Besuijen will get the chance to relaunch his Aberdeen career under Jimmy Thelin.

The attacking midfielder will return for pre-season under the new Dons boss later this month. Besuijen never kicked a ball for Aberdeen last season, the 23-year-old failing to feature under Barry Robson before spending the second half of the campaign at Emmen. Besuijen impressed in the Dutch Second Division and will now return to Scotland to see what the future holds. He has not played for Aberdeen since January 2023. Besuijen was a big-money signing from ADO Den Haag but has failed to hit his early heights that he showed in his first season under Stephen Glass.

Striker Pape Habib Gueye won’t be there on Thelin’s first day as his loan to Norwegian club Kristiansund is not due to end until next month. The 24-year-old was signed from KV Kortrijk but has also struggled for game time at Pittodrie. The Senegalese forward moved to Norway to get much-needed game time in January.

Thelin is due in Aberdeen next week with his squad set to return the week after. The former Elfsborg manager has still to add to his squad. He will kick off his Pittodrie career next month in the Premier Sports Cup. Aberdeen have Queen of the South and East Kilbride away before they have home games against Airdrie and Dumbarton.
