We look at some of her best roles in gritty dramas over the years.
This Is England
The Shane Meadows film was McClure's breakout role and also spawned three TV series which saw her reprise her character, Lol.
It followed a group of disadvantaged youths on a council estate in the 80s who were convinced to get involved in National Front activities, also starring Thomas Turgoose and Stephen Graham.

McClure's role in the tough drama that followed TV series through the 80s and up to 1990 set the tone for much of her work to come.
Line Of Duty
It's the biggest TV hit of recent years and features McClure in one of the three key roles, alongside Martin Compston and Adrian Dunbar.
The trio play detectives in anti-corruption police department AC-12 who are intent on discovering the identity of mystery crime boss H.

McClure's character Kate Fleming is known for her unwavering loyalty to the team and complete calm in the face of terrifying situations, which have included having guns pointed at her, working undercover for corrupt bosses and infiltrating crime groups.
Fans are clamouring for a series seven, which looks sure to be announced in the not-too-distant future.
Broadchurch
Back in 2013, the first series of Broadchurch was a huge hit for ITV, although most viewers probably remember it for the key detective pairing played by Olivia Colman and David Tennant.
However, the wider cast also included some big names, with outgoing Time Lord Jodie Whittaker as a bereaved mother and McClure playing ruthless journalist Karen White.
Karen was chasing the central story of an 11-year-old boy whose body was discovered on the town's beach and the investigation into who had killed him, but had another axe to grind as she felt Tennant's detective character had failed a grieving family in a previous case of his that she'd reported on.
I Am Nicola
Standalone drama I Am Nicola saw McClure take on a very different type of role in 2019, although it was no less gritty than many of her other series.
The I Am... anthology series focusses on one woman's story each time, with a different lead actor.
In McClure's uncomfortably raw turn, she played a woman trapped in an abusive relationship with a man played by her This Is England and Line Of Duty co-star Perry Fitzpatrick, winning huge praise from critics and viewers.
Trigger Point
Everyone clearly loves working with McClure, as she's currently back with another Line Of Duty collaborator - Jed Mercurio, who wrote the BBC police procedural and is now executive producing this new ITV series.
McClure stars as bomb disposal expo Lana Washington in the series which opened with a tense first episode when Lana's work partner Nut (Adrian Lester) was caught in an explosion moments before the end.
Plot details are being kept under wraps as twists and turns unfold, but it seems Lana will get involved in trying to find out who planted the bomb and why as she avenges her partner.
Trigger Point continues on Sunday at 9pm on ITV.
