CUSTOMERS "trying their luck" on a pub's zero tolerance for drugs have been warned.

The owners of The Oak Apple on Spetchley Road have reminded their customers of their zero tolerance for drugs and warned that those caught will be reported to the police.

Landlords Gavin Casey and Michael Oseland took over the watering hole nine months ago and said they had been working hard to eradicate the issue.

Mr Casey said: "I would like to remind all of our guests that we still have a zero tolerance on drug use within the premises.

"This includes the dealing of drugs, possession and the use of them.

"The premises include all areas inside and within our car park.

"We are now in contact with our colleagues at West Mercia Police to report instances."

Those caught doing drugs in the pub will get a lifetime ban and be reported to the police.

"Our staff have worked tirelessly over the past nine months to eradicate the issue but there is still a small minority trying their luck," added Mr Casey.

"It isn’t going unnoticed and will not be tolerated.

"This is a family pub for your children, nephews, nieces, etc, to come into and enjoy the pub.

"We have a responsibility to safeguard everyone.

"Please stop and think about other guests, including the children who use your pub."

The couple admitted they had been working to improve the reputation of Marston's pub.

The chain rates its pub's popularity on an app called Reputation, and before the two took over the city chain, it was rated last among the chain's eateries for Worcestershire.

Now, the pub has climbed to fifth.

Fred Jones, owner of The Imperial Tavern, said his pub does not have any problems with drug users, but he is aware of many in the city centre who do have issues.

"We are lucky because we do not attract a young crowd. Over the years I have been here, there has only been one instance, which was a large group from out of town, and that was dealt with.

"I have noticed several pubs have an issue with it, but we don't."

Worcester News has contacted West Mercia Police for a comment.
