Warrant issued for arrest of dangerous dog owner after pet injured woman

A warrant has been issued after a dangerous dog owner failed to show up at court.

Katie Carruthers, 41, was due to be sentenced for being "in charge of a dog dangerously out of control causing injury" on Tuesday but failed to attend the Teesside Crown Court hearing.

The incident took place on July 15, 2022, when Carruthers' dog injured a woman. The charge states: "On the 15th day of July 2022 was the owner of a dog which was dangerously out of control in a public place namely the junction of Westmorland Street and North Road, Darlington and whilst so out of control injured [name of victim].

The Darlington defendant previously pleaded guilty to the offence on Thursday, February 29, but failed to show at the hearing on Tuesday afternoon.

Recorder Thomas Moran issued a warrant for the North Road defendant's arrest.
