A landslide has stopped work at a Shetland wind farm.

The peat slip at Shetland’s Viking Wind Farm in Scotland, happened on Tuesday.

Footage shows tons of peat and stone sliding down a grassy hillside at speed.

A man in a high visibility jacket and hard hat can be seen running towards the black soil while on the phone.

A second worker can then be seen walking towards the landslide.

SSE, a Scottish energy company, said the incident occurred near Upper Kergord in the centre of the islands.

Work was immediately halted on Tuesday as a safety precaution while an investigation into the incident was carried out.

No one was injured in the incident, according to reports.

A spokesperson for SSEN Transmission said: “On Tuesday afternoon our site team reported a peat slip in an area of hillside between Upper Kergord and the B9075, where work on our Kergord to Gremista Connection Project is taking place.

“All site teams are safe and there were no injuries, however, as a safety precaution all site work has been stood down and the area secured until it has been fully assessed and made safe.

“A full assessment of the area will take place to understand the extent of any damage to the hillside.”
