Watch now: Lidl’s Christmas advert tells heartwarming raccoon tale
Lidl's heartwarming Christmas advert 2023 celebrates the power of small gestures.
Filled with Christmas joy, it tells the story of a raccoon who goes above and beyond to make one little boy's Christmas Day extra day.
The one-minute ad begins when the raccoon curiously looks through a window to see a family excitedly decorating their Christmas tree. After the family dog smashes the boy's favourite decoration, his mother picks up a cuddly toy while doing the weekly shop at Lidl but accidentally drops it on the cycle home.
After spotting the toy on the road, the raccoon jumps into action and helps return it to the boy. He climbs over road signs, rides the tube, and sails on a log across a river – all to reach the family home and put the toy under the Christmas tree.
Peter de Roos, Chief Commercial Officer at Lidl GB, says of the campaign: 'At Christmas, there's nothing more magical than seeing the joy a gift can bring to a child, and we want to help make sure this joy reaches all families.
'Our hope is that by bringing back the toy donation points we are making it easier, for those customers who can, to donate directly to local good causes by giving them a small way to make a real difference and help those that need it the most.'
It of course wouldn't be a Lidl advert without featuring their tasty festive food range, including Christmas turkey, pigs in blankets, Yorkshire puddings, and bubbling bottles of champagne.
As part of the ad, Lidl is asking customers to drop off new and unopened toys and games at their local store. From popular games to stocking fillers, these will then be gifted to children who need support in the local area.

Lidl's Christmas advert 2022 followed the story of a teddy called Lidl Bear who became an unlikely festive icon.
As the family began their festive food shop, Lidl Bear unexpectedly finds fame and goes on to become the face of Lidl's advertising campaign.
Immediately gaining celebrity status, we then see Lidl Bear appearing in magazines, going viral online and walking the red carpet. While it might seem like he is living the dream, the young girl pleads with the bear to come home in time for Christmas.

Lidl's futuristic Christmas advert 2021 showed what our future Christmases could look like in decades to come — and encourages shoppers to look forward, not back.
The fun one-minute ad begam in the present day, showing a family sitting down for a traditional Christmas roast with all the delicious trimmings. Set to the soundtrack of 'Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree', the advert then cut to show exactly the same Christmas scene – but it was set in the far future.
'After a challenging couple of years, the nation wants to look forward not back, which is why we've set our light-hearted ad decades in the future,' Claire Farrant, Marketing Director at Lidl GB, said.
